Random Comments:
The Shakers. Okay, so my friend/editor Siria already showcased this song on one of her columns. Oh well, repetition is good. This is a hot song.
Amusement Park on Fire. I think this is the highlight of the list. They did a show at the Echoplex recently. I was like, “Wow, I love this band.”
Castledoor. I saw this band at Spaceland. They were the June residency band. They handed out a CD single of a Bob Dylan cover song they’d recorded the night before at one of the band members’ home.
Dizzy Balloon. I saw them at the Viper Room. They had one of the coolest stories I’ve heard by a band. The lead singer was flying from LAX to Oakland. He happened to mention to someone that he was in a band. A girl sitting next to him asked him what band he played in. He said, “Dizzy Balloon.” She said, “My friend just gave me your CD and I love it.” She was part of the Viper Room audience, seeing the band for the first time. I love random encounters.
Okay, disclosure: I usually try to keep my list of bands/songs limited to what I’ve seen within a couple months of this column’s posting date. I have to admit that 5 Days Dirty, Gangi and Saint Motel are bands I saw way back, but then I’m sort of just doing a catch up and this is my column anyways so I don’t even know why I’m admitting this fact.
