SIRIA’S DECEMBER SOUNDTRACK

Merle Haggard – “If We Make it Through December”

This has been my theme song all month long. The go-go-go of the past 11 months finally equaled exhaustion for me. I kept saying that if I made it through December 18th, I would allow myself to collapse the week of December 20th. I kindof honored that – going M.I.A for the most part from December 23rd through the 29th. If you were able to still stay in communication with me throughout that period consider yourself special. If you were able to get me on the phone consider yourself extra special. Instead of wishing all of you a Merry Christmas, I wish you all a little Merle Haggard. I’m so ready for 2011.

Mad Planet – “Feel Good”
Thank you Cooper and Greg for writing and putting this song out so that I could play it at least 3 times in a row this past week.

Sonny and the Sunsets – “Death Cream”
I don’t make “best of” lists each year. I usually can’t get to all of the music that was released in time (for some good ones go check out Del’s new site: www.syffal.com) to compile a fair and just one. However, if I did make such lists, I’m pretty sure at least one of the four (four, right?) Sonny and the Sunsets releases from this year would’ve made my list.

Summer Twins – “Crying in My Sleep”

Sharon Van Etten – “One Day”
Ok, everyone was raving about Sharon Van Etten this past year, including Kyp Malone from TV on the Radio. I’m not going to argue. Epic probably would’ve also made the fore-mentioned list I don’t make. “One Day” is one of those songs that just makes me stop and listen every time.

Get Set Go – “5th and Spring”
Tonight is the last Mike TV’s (lead singer of Get Set Go) Church of Rock n’ Roll (at Old Towne Pub in Pasadena) for 2010. You should come. I’ll be there.

EELS – “Jungle Telegraph”
I’ve said it so many times, but seriously EELs can do no wrong in my book. I loooove this song, and forget all about it all of the time (parts of this song’s funky beat can’t help but bring to mind my favorite Doors’ song “Peace Frog”)

Active Child – “When Your Love is Safe (Classixx Remix)”
Basically anything the Classixx team touches (or re-touches I should say) I like – Shiny Toy Guns, Yacht (ESPECIALLY that about a year ago re-mix of “Psychic City,” Mayer Hawthorne, etc.

The Sundays – “Here’s Where the Story Ends”

1990 was 20 years ago. Wow. Wow, because we’re getting old (finally!). Wow, because I still like this song. Wow, because 2010 has also been about endings, soap opera cliffhanger- lifetime movie worthy endings. 2010 was also a low-budget horror movie/thriller of sorts. 2010 you’ve come to an end and I couldn’t be happier. .
