As a listener and collector of music I've never been a big fan of the EP format. It always felt like too much work for far too little music. Personally, I always felt as if I was getting force fed leftovers from someone else's meal. On top of that if you purchased one of these EPs there was a good chance it would be full of remix filler. No one needs four different versions of the same song.

Shit, I just pulled a Filter. Glass houses, Del. Glass houses. OK, let me fix this by slotting The XX at 10 and moving Grizzly Bear down to 11. Lets try this again:

10 Grizzly Bear Veckatimest The XX - The XX

That's better....but I can't help but feel like I've still left off some amazing albums. Let's keep this list going and we'll push Grizzly Bear down a few more rungs...say to "20" or so.

11 Passion Pit - Manners
12 Rain Machine - Rain Machine
13 Neon Indian - Psychic Chasms
14 Cass McCombs - Catacombs
15 Fanfarlo - Reservoir
16 Dan Deacon - Bromst
17 Julian Casablancas - Phrazes for the Young
18 Yeah Yeah Yeahs - It's Blitz
19 We Were Promised Jet Packs - These Four Walls
20 Grizzly Bear - Veckatimest

You know what, I don't really care for that entitled attitude that Grizzly Bear gives off. They're like an NBA #1 draft pick . They're off the list.

I'm using "headliner" here loosely because at most there were 36 people there.

This raises the question "If the Beatles never broke up does that mean Sir Paul would never write and record the title track to the "Spies Like Us" soundtrack? If so, that is a world I don't want to be a part of.

I considered this story to be a fun quirky piece of original storytelling...until I saw he lifted the main constructs from "The Twelfth Album", a short story published eleven years ago. I guess if you're going to create a killer Beatles mash up CD you might as run the gamut of plagiarism and steal a back story to go with it.

This is either going to be a big hit with you or a big miss. There is no in between for this sound. That said do I like this CD? Yes. Are they any more accessible now? Ummm let me put it this way I don't see this album's lead single getting played before the start of the World Series next year. Maybe they should have gotten Alicia Keys to sing some hooks.

Shockingly Rain Machine isn't getting the stellar reviews that I'd expect it to...unless of course "unbalanced" and "self indulgent" are hip new adjectives when describing your love for music. Stepping away from my TVOTR man crush I suppose I can understand where they are coming from as three of the songs check in at around or over the eight minute mark...but that hardly seems like something to complain about. It would appear that TVOTR's past successes are causing reviewers to have limitless expectations moving forward.
