QUESTION: Is running bad for someone with a weak ankle? And is there a way to build up that ankle without hurting it?
ANSWER: I wouldn’t suggest running if you have an ankle that is weakened due to a previous injury. It would depend on exactly what is wrong with your ankle though. You can strengthen your ankles using bands and by doing exercises like calf raises and go from there.
QUESTION: What are some of the best exercises to keep my breasts from sagging when I get older?
ANSWER: Chest presses, push ups, incline flies (these also work for working the chest area for both males and females in general)
Audra will be answering your fitness questions every Monday. If you have questions you’d like answered you may email her at Audra@intraffik.com or send to info@intraffik.com. To see if your questions have been addressed check out past “Ask Audra” Column Entries here

QUESTION: I’ve been battling a health issue that leaves me a little low-energy, what are some things I can do that won’t completely wipe me out?
ANSWER: It’s really hard to answer this question without knowing what that health issue might be. If we’re talking about something like a cold then really you should take a break from exercise until you feel better or you could make yourself worse. If you’re battling something as serious as cancer, then your doctor is really the person you should talk to about that to ensure that you don’t overdo it. However, if you are suffering from something like depression getting yourself to the gym is one of the best ways to help get you out of it. Exercise will usually help invigorate you and wake you up when you are fatigued in general, but if you’re battling something more serious your physician is the first place you should start to find out what is advisable for your specific condition.
QUESTION: I like swimming, but it’s all I do. Is swimming enough of a workout to not do cardio/weights?
ANSWER: Swimming is great and would actually be considered a cardio workout. I would suggest adding weights to your routine for a more complete workout regimen.
QUESTION: What is the best exercise to do to get the best results for toning up arms quickly if I have a limited amount of time before I have to show my bare arms? What are best things to do to keep them in shape for the long run (also any tips for women who want definition without ending up broad-shouldered)?
ANSWER: Tricep kickbacks, *skull crushers, tricep dips, bicep curls, hammer curls to strengthen and tone, but in order to show off those muscles you still need to burn the layer of fat on top of them by losing overall body fat percentage with cardio and eating right.
The skull crusher is an exercise for isolating the triceps. The triceps brachii is composed of three heads. The three heads of the triceps have separate attachments near the shoulder but a singular attachment for each muscle just below the elbow.
Starting position: Lie on your back. Elbows bent and bar behind head.
Movement: Keep your upper arms static as you press the bar towards the ceiling.

OUT TO SEE: PROJECT ETHOS’ FASHION SHOW (PART I)
My “M.O.” on Intraffik is blogging on music and movies, but as always I was more than willing to head off to Project Ethos. I just have this fascination with the creativity in the fashion industry. So here I am, writing up a little note on Project Ethos. Now I had to admit to FURIO Apparel that I dealt mainly on the music side, but that I was doing the night’s photography for Intraffik.
Now the e-mail I received indicated that press should arrive at 7 p.m. I was thinking, who is going to arrive at 7p.m.? I showed up at 7:30 p.m. and there were already lines outside of the Avalon, the event’s location. I was guided into a side room of the Avalon, which was packed and so I had to push my way over to the Sweets & Treats table to sample a sweet. I would have tried a handful more, but one must be careful about eating too many sweets. This is also where I ran into the FURIO designer.
I made my way out and headed to the stage area by scooting past security with my media pass. The photo pit was already packed with photographers so I found myself slightly off to the side. Last year when I was at the Avalon, the photographers crowded the runway, but this time around everyone stood off from it.
While waiting for the night to start, I was approached by Boditecture. My first comment to her after she gave me her business card, “So you’re from San Francisco?” She told me that she designed “convertible” clothes. It did lead to a fascinating runway show for Boditecture. What was going to happen next on the runway?
The night was split into two fashion shows. The first one highlighted Luica, Ermelinda Manos, JaJo Couture, Boditecture, and Danielle the Dressmaker. In between, Hyper Crush (pictured right and below) gave us a techno/hip-hop set that screamed to me, Club Moscow!!! Maybe it was just my perception, but I think I was the most excited photographer during their set. Remember, I did tell FURIO that I mainly did music photography.

The second fashion show highlighted Melissa Velia, Edita Collection, G. Marie, FURIO, and Glaudi.
Now since fashion is not my “M.O.”, I am taking a big leap here, but I did like G. Marie the best.
After all was wrapped up, the designer for Danielle the Dressmaker came over to the photography pit and told us that she was very sorry about how her models didn’t stop at the end of the stage, but that she had instructed them to do so. The photographers expected a different process and kept on yelling “Stop!” to all the models. The models must have gone back and informed her and so she came out to explain the situation. It was very thoughtful of her to come out and talk with us.

Question: I haven’t had an exercise routine in a long time, what is the best way to get started?
Answer: The best way to get started is to start slow. Chances are if you haven’t worked out in a while
some of the key muscles that keep your body from getting hurt won’t be protecting you so well because you haven’t been using them. Start with the basics. Stability training, light weights, moderate cardio and slowly build up to the harder stuff
Question: What’s the best/simplest way for a woman (20’s, 30’s, 40’s) to lose belly fat?
Answer: Unfortunately when you want to lose fat you can’t target one specific area to lose it in. You can definitely do crunches and ab targeted exercises which will strengthen the muscle underneath the fat, but if you don’t lose an overall body fat % you’ll still see the fat lying on top of the muscle. So at any age the basics still apply. Eat a balanced diet, exercise regularly, burn more calories than you are taking in and lose an overall body fat percentage.
Question: What are some of the best outdoor places in L.A to workout in that you’ve encountered (i.e. parks, stairs, running paths, etc)?
Answer: There are so many to choose from in L.A., but Runyon Canyon, Wildwood Canyon, rollerblading in Santa Monica, there’s a nice outdoor track in Burbank off Whitnall Highway, Griffith Park, Jogging on any beach is definitely a killer workout. Wow, there’s just so many to choose from in L.A. that it’s hard to pick. I lived in Burbank for a good portion of the time in L.A. so I obviously know more places around there.
