WHAT I LISTENED TO (FELL ASLEEP TO) IN OCTOBER AND NOVEMBER…
I seem to be a creature of habit. Due to being super busy I neglected to post my own playlist for October, and while compiling the November one a song came up that I incorrectly thought I had previously included in a past playlist (“Solitude” by Girls). So while I did not find that song on any of my past playlists I did find that I didn’t post playlists right around the same times last year and this year. This year it was October, and last year it was November. This year October and November may as well have been one month. Octember? Noctember? Maybe Ovtember? I think I like Ovtember, I’m officially declaring October and November “Ovtember,” at least for the purpose of the combining of my playlists for these two months. This year my excuse was all of the traveling and the fact that I was trying to decide on three Halloween costumes, but mostly the traveling. In fact I’m out of town as I’m putting this together as we speak (write?). There was so much back and forth that a couple of the cities started running together.
I knew it was bad when one day I just stopped in front of my home in L.A.’s door upon returning from a trip and instead of mindlessly inserting the key and unlocking my door as I might usually do, I stopped and looked down at my keys a little unsure of which key unlocked this particular front door. I’ve lived in the same place for the past five years, mind you. Don’t worry though, I still managed to have more than my share of fun amidst all of this work.
For At the Tavern, other misc. occasions, and intraffik radio related things I constantly have to put together playlists, so instead of trying to go through all of the music I’ve selected for those I’ll provide you with a sampling of what I fell asleep to in the last couple of months.
So here is my “What I Fell Asleep to in Ovtember” and as with any of my previous “What I Fell Asleep to…” lists this is what I chose to fall asleep to, not what put me to sleep.
Jesus and the Mary Chain feat. Hope Sandoval – “Perfume”
Built to Spill – “Kicked it in the Sun”
Belly – “Full Moon, Empty Heart”
MC 5 – “Looking At You”
Miles Davis – “Blue in Green”
The Slow Club – “Giving Up on Love”
Ra Ra Riot – “Ghosts Under Rocks”

THE MO ODDS INVADE THE INTRAFFIKRADIO STUDIOS FOR THE THIRD WEEK OF THEIR INTRAFFIKRADIO.COM NOVEMBER RESIDENCY
Intraffik Radio will be selecting a different local LA band each month as their Monthly Resident Online Radio Band (we do believe that we might be pioneers in this endeavor). Each week the selected band will get to take over the station and act as Guest DJs for the month, playing all of the music they’re into and that influenced them. They will also get to invite other local bands on as guests, as well as play some live sets during a couple of the weeks.
WEEK THREE WITH THE MO-ODDS OUR VERY FIRST MONTHLY RESIDENT BAND FOR THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER…
Listen to www.intraffikradio.com today at 2pm for the re-broadcast of this episode. Click here to listen
(You can listen to Week 1’s Episode here and Week 2’s Episode here)

In keeping with the spirit of community that intraffikradio is all about, we have asked the Mo Odds to introduces us via their residency to other bands in the LA music scene that they themselves are fans of, so this week the Mo Odds invited the High Life Cavaliers into the studio for an interview and a live performance. You’ll learn where the band name, High Life Cavaliers came from, where the band members (Max, Jon, and Jwyanza) each are from. You’ll also learn about what both bands like and don’t like about the L.A. music scene and what some of their guilty musical pleasures are.
You’ll hear live performances from each of the bands as well as lots of other great music.

Siria’s November and December Playlist
What I fell asleep to November and December…
Since I skipped providing a playlist for November, I figured I’d let you in on some of the more mellow stuff
(not really so mellow) I listened to in the past couple of months. The following list includes a sampling of songs since I obviously couldn’t include every single song. However, these are all songs that I CHOSE to fall asleep to, not that MADE me fall sleep. BIG difference.
AA Bondy – “I Can See the Pines Are Dancing”
The performance in this video reminds me of the Firelight and Unlit house parties that IsGood Music puts on (definitely something you should check out at least once, it’ll allow you to see the LA independent music scene in a different more positive light)
The French Semester – “Backwards Rolling”
Great local band that I’ve played on Ammunition a few times, their latest effort Forces Afield was released in December where they shared the stage with friends (and Notes from Vivace favorites) The Monthlies during their EP Release Party a few weeks ago. This song is off of Good Friends Only I Could See. Their full length release Open Letter to the Disappeared, I also play fairly often.
Ryan Larkin and Avalon Peacock (Can You Duet?) – “Tennessee Waltz”
When I went home for Thanksgiving, I caught a re-run of this CMT American Idol type show where this performance took place. As a little girl I remember hearing the original by Patti Page and thinking how sad a song it was. This time around hearing the song and seeing the performance, I thought to myself gosh I wish I could just once look as demure as that girl performing in a simple button down dress. Thanks a lot mom and dad for all the t&a that I received from your combined gene pools that thus prevents me from ever achieving that look.
The Pains of Being Pure at Heart – “Stay Alive”
Here’s the video to “Come Saturday” (I actually like this song better although my favorite song of theirs would be “Teenager in Love”) (more…)
Notes from Vivace’s November Playlist
Automatique: “Stepping on Your Feet”
Funeral Party: “Carwars”
Leslie and the Badgers: “Los Angeles”
